About Our School

St Oswald's is a successful rural village school based three miles outside the historic market town of Nantwich. Its setting along a country lane, surrounded by fields is idyllic.

The original Victorian building (built in 1887) has been extended and offers separate accommodation for EYFS,  Key Stages 1 and 2. All key stages have separate entrances and access to the large playground and fields with wonderful rural views on all sides. We have just opened a new purpose built classroom to accommodate our increasing number of children.

Pupils do well. Academic standards are good and pupils are helped to develop responsible attitudes. Consequently, they are well prepared for their education after primary school. (Ofsted 2014)

Church School

As a church school we aim to instil Christian values and a sense of moral responsibility. As St. Oswald’s Church is located only a hundred metres away from the school, services are held there to celebrate notable dates within the school year as well important festivals within the Christian calendar. Regular assemblies led by church leaders are held in the school itself.

Small class sizes

Due to our small class sizes relationships between staff and pupils are close. Every effort is made to foster a family atmosphere which helps children to feel safe. This was recognised and commented upon in the school’s most recent OFSTED report ( 2014). It said : Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding. They take a lead in making decisions, are confident in many different situations and display high levels of courtesy and respect towards others. Pupils report that bullying does not happen. They feel very safe in school and say that others will always provide help if they need it.The relationship between the staff and governors is also very supportive.

Creative Curriculum

We pride ourselves on our creative curriculum that enthuses and engages all learners, Ofsted (2014) commented on our "Good teaching and imaginative activities" . High standards of classroom education are supported by regular visits and practical activities. These help to stimulate pupils’ enthusiasm and they look forward to them very much. A range of after school clubs are available and the children are given regular opportunities to compete against other local schools in tournaments and friendly matches.

Our behaviour expectations are very high; consideration and respect for others is central to our core values. Our children work together as one big family!

Parents as partners

"Pupils’ learning is tracked very carefully. Pupils, and their parents, are kept well informed about academic progress. School leaders make an extra effort to seek parents’ views and to share information in order to strengthen the partnership between home and school, and to make expectations clear. The information provided for parents is first class. For example, all parents have access, through the school website, to their child’s school performance data and they can check it at any time. A parent council is active in voicing parents’ views and influencing school policy and future developments. There are many regular newsletters and events that involve parents and keep them posted about the school’s work." (Ofsted 2014)

Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child’s education and the active “Friends” group is always appreciative of help and assistance. Regular social and fundraising events are held which help to support the school.

We provide out of hours care for our children. Children are supervised by a member of staff in the mornings from 8 am at a cost of £4 per hour including breakfast. At the end of the school day our After School Club runs from 3:15 to 6pm using our own members of staff, who ensure that the children are well looked after an have lots of fun! The  Oswald's Owls ASC provides a variety of exciting activities each week. (Also £4 per hour).

We have also just introduced our two year old provision "Little Owls" which is run by fully qualified staff allowing our very youngest pupils to grow and develop in a safe, stimulating indoor and outdoor environment (£5 per hour, we also accept 15 free hour places).
