Community

St. Oswald’s School is a vital and vibrant part of the community. Our children are drawn from both the local catchment area and further a field. The school regularly contributes to community events. These include regular celebration services and assemblies in the Church as well as our sports day and summer fair, held in the school grounds, which is well attended by friends and extended family. All are welcome, whether or not they have a direct connection with the school.

The Friends of St Oswald's are very active in their support of the school.

As St. Oswald’s is a Church of England controlled school, the teachings of the Church are an important aspect of school and its community links, which extend to other faiths and religions. Our Governing Body is comprised of parents, local councillors, parish councillors and teachers. The Christian ethos helps our children to understand the wider implications of community in the school, village and country context, helping them to become well-rounded and caring citizens of the future. This is perhaps well illustrated by parents’ comments on the successful transition of their children to high school where they assimilate into the much larger school community with a quiet confidence.

The village of Worleston where the school is located is lucky enough to have a church, pub and importantly a shop and post office, as well as its primary school. The school building acts not only as a thriving school but also as a meeting place for other village activities such as the Women’s Institute, Parish Council meetings and local scouting and cycling events. This is something that school is keen to encourage, thereby ensuring that the public utility of the building is a benefit to the community, making everyone in the locality a stakeholder in its success.

St Oswald's School works closely with St Oswald's Church. Details of services and other events can be found on the Church page.
