Enrichment 2014-15

Children that attend XC club on a Tuesday lunchtime have been working towards UK Athletics Awards. I am extremely proud to announce that Jessica and Charlotte both achieved GOLD, Leah  and Katie both achieved SILVER, Lilly and Elliott both achieved BRONZE and Georgina, Imogen , Martha, Henry and Kyle achieved the top award for their year - STEP 10. Well done!! They will sew their badges onto their PE kit and wear them with pride.

Year 5/6 spent 2 days extending their cycling skills, learning to ride safely on the road.

Teams of primary school children across the world join together to run 5000m in legs of 200m. The aim is to beat the World 5000m record! We decided to aim for Mo Farah's British record of 12:53:11. Even sprinting 200m at a time, we were not very close with a time of 14minutes 50seconds. It is amazing to think just how fast he runs when he runs a race. However, our school is high on the leader board and the organisers contacted me to congratulate us on our fast time! Congratulations to Jessica, Leah, Katie, Elliott, Kyle, Henry, Imogen, Martha and Alyssa who made up our team. Special congratulations to Katie who posted the fastest 200m.

Year 5/6 children were kindly invited by the Crewe Alex apprentices - who study at Reaseheath College - to visit their training dome which is situated at Reaseheath. They teamed up with pupils from Bridgemere Primary to perform some training drills led by the apprentices and then take part in a fun mini-tournament which the apprentices refereed. It was fantastic to train where the Crewe Alex players train and meet some potential stars of the future.

Many of the children in KS2 are taking part in the Marathon Challenge set by Aviva Athletics Awards. They are aiming to complete a marathon (yr 5/6) or a half-marathon (yr 3/4) throughout this term. They will then earn themselves a badge to celebrate their achievement. The aim of the challenge is to encourage sustained activity over a period of time - sport for life. We aim to ensure children see sport - whatever form - as an essential part of their life.

Dennis Artess visited school with some of the members from Crewe Central Table Tennis Club to introduce our children to the fun of table tennis. The children loved playing it. For those that are interested, the club runs at South Cheshire College on a Tuesday 4pm-5.30pm £3 per session (all equipment provided). dennis.artess@btconnect.com

Eddie Tittensor from Onneley Golf Club visited our school to introduce us to our PE unit on golf. We learnt how to putt the ball accurately by playing some fun games.

Jessica Mair has run a Judo club for children from all years. The children work extremely hard and have learnt some very skilful moves whilst playing a huge variety of fun games.
